RISR began in 2019 as a group of Shakespeare acting
students hailing from various institutions: academic,
artistic, and improv.
Our aim was to meet and engage consciously with
Shakespeare’s text: working towards best practice:
authentic characters, immediacy in our scenes, and an
overall truer connection to ourselves and audiences.
During Covid, RISR members collaborated on creating
YouTube shorts of Shakespeare scenes. Incorporating
local businesses as much as possible, one of our
favorite shorts features Brutus and Cassius chatting
over a hotdog at Saugy’s on Rolfe, Cranston.
RISR produced A Midsummer Night’s Dream in August
of 2022 (outdoors, Providence) and is currently
producing their second for July 2025: King John
(Providence, AS220).
RI Shakespeare Rep
RISR offers classes and workshops
in Shakespeare Performance: from marking breaths in
the text to deeper analysis of Shakespeare’s text
conventions and everything in between. The aim is
fascilitating understanding, working towards clarity,
and performer empowerment.
We serves individuals, theaters, classrooms, and
acting/community groups.
